Overview of Cambridge International Education as Curriculum Enrichment

Core Curriculum Framework

The school's primary curriculum is National Plus (Kurikulum Merdeka and Kurikulum Kekhasan GIS), which serves as the foundational educational structure. Cambridge International Education is added as an enrichment layer, meaning it supplements rather than replaces the national curriculum. This hybrid model allows students to benefit from both local educational requirements and internationally recognized Cambridge programs, preparing them for global opportunities while meeting national standards.

Implementation of Cambridge Enrichment Across School Units

Cambridge enrichment is applied comprehensively in the early and middle school levels. The implementation ensures progressive development from foundational skills to more advanced learning:

  1. Early Years (PG-K Unit): Enrichment is provided to all classes. This stage focuses on building foundational skills through play-based and exploratory learning, aligning with Cambridge's Early Years framework.
  2. Primary Unit: All classes receive Cambridge enrichment. This builds on early foundations, emphasizing core academic skills in a structured yet engaging manner.
  3. Lower Secondary (JHS Unit): Enrichment extends to all classes, supporting the transition to more subject-specific and analytical learning.
  4. This tiered implementation ensures age-appropriate enrichment, starting broad in early years and becoming more focused in secondary levels.

Structure of Cambridge-Enriched Subjects

The enrichment primarily targets Mathematics, Science, and English as a Second Language. This structure promotes bilingual proficiency and subject mastery:

  • Early Years (PG-K Unit): Subjects include Mathematics, Language and Communication (English as a Second-Language), and Let’s Explore (an interdisciplinary program focusing on discovery-based learning in science and the world around us).
  • Primary Unit: Focus on Mathematics, Science, and English as a Second Language, building foundational knowledge in these core areas.
  • Lower Secondary (JHS Unit): Continues with Mathematics, Science, and English as a Second Language, advancing to more complex concepts suitable for adolescent learners.

Learning Process

The delivery of Cambridge-enriched content emphasizes immersion and integration:

  1. 100% English Lesson Delivery: All teaching in enriched subjects is conducted entirely in English, promoting fluency and confidence in using the language as a medium of instruction.

  2. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Approach: This methodology combines subject content (e.g., math or science concepts) with language learning. CLIL encourages students to learn academic content through English, enhancing both subject knowledge and language skills simultaneously. For example, a science lesson might involve discussing experiments in English, reinforcing vocabulary and comprehension.

Learning Resources

To support high-quality enrichment, the program utilizes officially endorsed materials:

Student Books: Sourced from reputable publishers that are specifically designed and endorsed for Cambridge International Education, ensuring alignment with global standards. They include interactive elements, real-world applications, and progressive exercises to engage students at different levels.

Assessment Methods

Assessments are divided into external and internal categories, balancing formal international benchmarking with integrated school evaluations:

  1. Internal Assessments (Integrated into School Schedule)
These follow the school's major exam timetable and are compiled by teachers using resources from the Cambridge International Education portal or past papers. This ensures ongoing evaluation allowing for regular feedback and alignment with both national and Cambridge standards.

  2. External Assessments (Directly from Cambridge Official)
These are external exams administered by Cambridge, providing globally recognized credentials
    • Early Years: "Check Together" assessment, conducted in EY 3 (typically the final year of early childhood education).
    • Primary: "Checkpoint" exam, held in Grade 6 to evaluate progress at the end of primary schooling.
    • Lower Secondary (JHS): "Checkpoint" assessment, focusing on key stage outcomes.
